{"id":17790,"date":"2023-11-08T13:12:37","date_gmt":"2023-11-08T19:12:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/scz.org\/?p=17790"},"modified":"2023-11-08T13:12:37","modified_gmt":"2023-11-08T19:12:37","slug":"experience-the-wonders-of-wildlife-at-wow-safari","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scz.org\/blog\/experience-the-wonders-of-wildlife-at-wow-safari","title":{"rendered":"Experience the Wonders of Wildlife at WOW Safari"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>WOW Safari is an educational camp for elementary aged kids packed full of hands-on learning and group adventure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s a day of exploration,&#8221; Elementary Education Specialist Bailey Thomas said. &#8220;They get to work with other like-minded students and get to participate in experiments, outdoor explorations, interact with animals, and learn more about conservation and nature.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>WOW Safari happens numerous times throughout the year. From the week-long Spring Fling WOW Safari to half-day Thanksgiving WOW Safari, no two sessions are the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>WOW Safari focuses on exploration through S.T.E.A.M.- Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The great things about the natural world is all of those are intertwined effortlessly,&#8221; Thomas said. &#8220;So, we can highlight different elements of those through fun hands-on activities that allow students to learn without knowing that they&#8217;re actually learning.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This class allows its students to interact with nature and animals through science experiments, nature hikes, and art projects. WOW Safari also fosters problem-solving skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"240\" src=\"https:\/\/scz.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Coll_WOW-1024x240.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17791\" srcset=\"https:\/\/scz.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Coll_WOW-1024x240.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/scz.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Coll_WOW-600x140.jpg 600w, https:\/\/scz.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Coll_WOW-300x70.jpg 300w, https:\/\/scz.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Coll_WOW-768x180.jpg 768w, https:\/\/scz.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Coll_WOW-1536x359.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/scz.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Coll_WOW-2048x479.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Kids enjoy a wide range of activities at WOW Safari<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe try to provide students some unstructured time throughout the day to create friendships and to problem solve together,&#8221; Thomas said. &#8220;We find that students develop those problem-solving skills and are able to create collaborative relationships and build a better understanding of the world when they are able to have that unguided time. We allow students to use their experiences to better themselves.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>WOW Safari encourages students to get messy and learn new things. Students should arrive in closed-toed shoes and dressed for the weather. Rain or shine, this class explores the outdoors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Expect to be outside,&#8221; Thomas said. &#8220;As long as the weather is safe, expect to be interacting with animals and nature.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>WOW Safari is also a great opportunity for collaborative learning.
